Finding Halal Business for Muslims in the West by Laura Cosse'

No doubt, Muslims are in a predicament these days. More and more we find, with a recessing economy and soaring inflation rates, that it takes two incomes for the average family to survive. But, having both parents in the workplace opens up a plethora of difficulties as we are able to spend less time with our children, teaching them our beliefs, and we rely more and more upon the daycares and schools to raise our children.

What values will our children learn in the average daycare or preschool system? There are very few Islamic schools and daycares available and the majority of Muslims probably do not have access to these valuable resources. So, we rely on the western system, a system that does not cherish and respect the Islamic religion. The result is that our children are growing up knowing next to nothing about the beauty of Islam, and we are estranged from our beloved families.

Another major problem facing our Ummah is that when we do go out in the workforce, it is exceptionally hard to find a halal environment. Whether the companies deal in haram products or services or there is a mixed sex working environment, it is almost impossible for us to find completely halal employment. Another common problem we face is not being able to pray in the workplace and, for the brothers, not being able to leave every Friday in order to attend the congregational prayer. Unfortunately, many times we just suck it up and take whatever job we can find, praying that Allah will forgive us and bless us with enough money to make ends meet.

Finally, alhamdulilah, we have a solution to these problems. With the advent of the internet and home based businesses, a new world of opportunities have been opened to the Muslim community. Working at home with a halal business is the answer to all of these problems; we will be able to raise our children ourselves and ensure they are receiving a proper Islamic upbringing, we can complete our prayers on time, and avoid the co-ed working environments that are a norm in western society.

The key, of course, is finding the right opportunity. There are many scams out there online right now and we do need to be careful not to lose our shirts to one of these false opportunities. There are two key factors that we need to look for before choosing one of the home businesses to invest in. The first is a tested and proven system including phenomenol websites, marketing, training, and a system of following up promptly with all prospects. The second key factor is that you need to look for a stand alone product, that means a product that a customer would purchase with or without an income opportunity attached to it. It is important not to become involved with any organization that doesn't have an actual product for sale and relies completely on recruiting more affiliates, this is actually illegal.

So, with a little bit of research you will be able to find, insha Allah, a lucrative home based business that will allow you to fulfill your familial and religious obligations while earning a tremendous halal income.
